I had a little bit of sympathy for Castor during the HIC's hearings because he seemed like someone who had just been overwhelmed by an impossible task in defending Trump, but it seems clear now, during this House Judiciary impeachment hearing, that he does not see this just as a professional responsibility and that he's personally all-in behind Trump.
1) There is no evidence Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election. That is literally Russian propoganda meant to make their attack on our country seem less transparent. The fact many Republicans are parroting it is borderline treason.
2) There is no evidence Burisma attempted to bribe Biden into firing Shokin by hiring his son Hunter. Shokin was a corrupt crony of Putin and worked for the former President of Ukraine who was found guilty of treason. Biden put leverage on Ukraine to fire him because in 2015 it was still part of the US agenda to contain Russian international corruption. At this point both the House and Senate was in GOP majority and neither chamber so much as made a peep about it let alone investigate it. Was it politically unwise for Biden to get involved in policy regarding Ukraine while his son was serving on the board for a large Ukrainian company? Of course. Was that a crime? Absolutely not.
3) The identity of the whistleblower is irrelevant. Whether Adam Schiff knows who the whistleblower is or not is irrelevant. Over a dozen witnesses have testified to facts corroborating the whistleblower's report. Demanding to know the whistleblower's name is like the cops caring more about who called the police than capturing the criminal. Besides the fact that exposing the whistleblower will intimidate future whistleblowers from taking the risk to expose potential corruption within the government.
4) Time and time again Republicans have attacked the legitimacy of the investigation, the credibility of witnesses, the process itself, but have they provided any evidence or testimony to prove innocence? No.
5) The process the House is using now is effectively the same as what Republicans used to investigate both Bill and Hillary Clinton. If the process was good enough for them then, it should work for them now. But all we hear from them is "WAAAAH! That's not fair!" What's good for the goose is good for the gander my friends.
6) The Republicans' defense that Trump had no 'mens rea' (intent to commit a crime) based on Trump saying that he didn't, is laughable. No further detail beyond that is required.
7) Using taxpayers' money, allocated in a bipartisan bill to assist an ally currently being attacked, as a means to extort said country into providing help to win an election, is impeachable. It's baffling to me that this is being debated.
8) For the love of all that is holy, Impeachment is not "overturning the election". Trump didn't even win the majority of votes, and at least a portion of the votes he did win were with the help of an aggressive propoganda campaign undertaken by the Russians. Moreover, the judges he's nominated are going to remain in their positions, so after he's gone we'll be feeling the effects of his administration for decades. That's not getting "overturned." If Trump were impeached, Pence would become President. Republicans still get their will for another year. Nothing is "overturned".
9) Impeachment is in the Consititution. It's a fucking shame this has to be said but apparantly there is more than a small number of people claiming Impeachment is an Unconstitutional Coup. It's not. A coup is when the military overthrows a democratically elected government. This is not even remotely relatable.
10) It is unreasonable to say that this should be left to an election because Trump's actions in 2016 and 2020 make clear that he has no intent whatsoever to allow the election to be fair in the first place.
11) Multiple people within the administration have claimed total and complete innocence yet refuse to provide this testimony under oath, continuously refusing legitimate Congressional subpoenas. If they had evidence that would prove innocence, Trump would demand they testify. But instead he is demanding they not testify, which strongly suggests that whatever they do have to say it will likely implicate him.
12) Saying Trump committed a crime isn't "being mean". Jesus Christ. facepalm You know what was "mean"? Betraying the public trust by attempting to use our tax dollars to cheat in an election. Holy fuck
