There is no better way for Golden State to turn their own historic page, and turn the NBA's history page (a whole new decade of NBA begins next season, 2019-2020), than to have Golden State pass their NBA Championship title forward to a team that simply matched and eclipsed them in every capacity. That was one of the greatest NBA Finals series ever played. Toronto prepared for this series the moment they traded for Kawhi Leonard. The Toronto Raptors matched and oftentimes eclipsed Golden State's "high basketball iq" decision-making process, prestigious expert-level robotic technical skills and talent prowess, near-robotic focus, and championship-minded professionalism and sportsmanship. Kyle Lowry wove wondrous defensive maneuveurs that wrecked all the offensive and defensive schemes of my team. He should have tied Kawhi for Finals MVP. It also helped that the Raptors were simply healthier and at fuller strength than Golden State, a team that has played 100+ games a year for the last five years and was suffering many bad injuries all series long and missing a player etc, but injuries and missing players are part of the sporting life, Golden State also benefited from a subpar ramshackle dump Cavaliers team Finals after Finals after Finals. The Raptors players were also carried by the momentum of their own historic position (first NBA title for their franchise).

This has been the worst case scenario across the board for GSW. Lose the finals. Lose KD. Lose Klay. MIt's legitimately insane how they possibly lost not only this title but any shot at a title next year in the span of 72 hours.
Steve Kerr on this Warriors run: "What I've witnessed as their coach the last five years is an incredible combination of talent and character and commitment. This just doesn't happen. A group of guys don't just come together and do what they did over the last five years."

Kawhi: "A lot of people doubted me. Thought I was faking an injury or didn't want to play for a team. That was disappointing to me because I love the game of basketball. Going through that, I had to trust myself. I know who I am as a person, I know how I feel. That was my goal and my focus."
