Israel is about to have the most right-wing government in the country’s history, one committed to the proposition that criminal convictions should not prevent ministerial service—including in national security positions. It is about to pass a law to allow one party leader with a tax fraud conviction to serve as a minister. Another member of Knesset will become a minister with oversight over police agencies despite dozens of indictments and a conviction for incitement to racism. And, of course, the prime minister himself is currently facing a criminal trial.
