New York, NY, July 15, 2019 … The ADL (Anti-Defamation League) today condemned President Trump’s racist tweets about four U.S. congresswomen, in which he said they should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” and his defense of these remarks by saying the congresswomen hate Israel and are anti-Semitic.  “As Jews, we are all too familiar with this kind of divisive prejudice,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO and National Director. “While ADL has publicly disagreed with these congresswomen on some issues, the president is echoing the racist talking points of white nationalists and cynically using the Jewish people and the state of Israel as a shield to double down on his remarks. Politicizing the widespread, bipartisan support for Israel and throwing around accusations of anti-Semitism is damaging to the security of Israel and the Jewish community. He should lead by example, stop politicizing these issues and stop smearing members of Congress.”

A deported Marine Corps veteran who has been blocked from returning to the U.S. for more than a decade was denied entry on Monday for a citizenship interview, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Roman Sabal, who is from Belize, reportedly reached the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California on Monday morning, with his attorney, Victoria Starrett, and requested that he be allowed entry to go to a naturalization interview in San Diego later that day. Border officials, who are able to temporarily let people into the U.S. for “humanitarian or significant public benefit,” ultimately turned away, the Union-Tribune reports. When he first came to the U.S., Sabal, now 58, had a tourist visa and couldn’t stay permanently, the newspaper noted, adding that his goal from the beginning was to enlist in the Marine Corps. He joined the service with a fake ID document, the Union-Tribune reported. When he came clean about it in boot camp, he was told, “Don’t worry about it. You’re a Marine now,” it added. Sabal served in the Marines for six years and then for several more years in the Army Reserves, the newspaper reports, adding that he was later honorably discharged and returned to Belize because he had developed diabetes and sought treatment from his mother back home. An immigration court judge ordered Sabal to be deported when he didn't show up for a hearing when he tried to return to the U.S., the paper reports. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials on Monday reportedly sent the Sabal and Starrett back to Mexico, where Sabal plans to wait a few days for a solution before being forced to travel back to Belize.

Neo-Nazi Andrew Anglin Should Pay $14 Million To Trolling Victim, Judge Rules — Anglin was also ordered to pay more than $4 million to a Muslim-American radio host last month after his website falsely accused the man of terrorism.

The founder and editor of the neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer should be ordered to pay more than $14 million to a Montana real estate agent against whom he organized an anti-Semitic "troll storm," a federal magistrate judge found on Monday. The judgment was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Missoula, Montana, against Andrew Anglin, who encouraged the online intimidation campaign against Tanya Gersh, a Jewish real estate agent in the Montana resort town of Whitefish, her husband and their 12-year-old son. In an opinion that must still be approved by U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen, the magistrate judge, Jeremiah C. Lynch, recommended a default judgment against Anglin, who failed to appear for a deposition in April. But Lynch went further than finding for Gersh on procedural grounds: He recommended that Christensen order Anglin, who is in his mid-30s, to pay $4,042,438 in compensatory damages and $10 million, the maximum under state law, in punitive damages for "the particularly egregious and reprehensible nature of Anglin's conduct."

North Korea warned Tuesday that planned military exercises involving U.S. and South Korean forces would jeopardize proposed disarmament talks with Washington, and hinted it might respond by resuming nuclear and missile tests.    In a statement, the North’s Foreign Ministry accused the United States of violating the spirit of negotiations between President Trump and dictator Kim Jong Un by proceeding with military maneuvers scheduled for next month. At their first meeting in Singapore last year, Trump agreed to cancel major exercises with South Korea to avoid provoking Pyongyang.    The North said its moratorium on nuclear and missile tests “is a promise we made in hopes of improving bilateral relations, not something we wrote into law.”    “Are we obliged to keep the promise unilaterally when the other side does not?,” it said.

(Beto also qualifies for September and October debates with new NH poll showing him at 2%): Beto O'Rourke Raises More Than $13 Million and Meets the DNC's Unique Donor Requirement for Fall Debates During the Four Months Since Launching Presidential Campaign. Beto's campaign added more than $3.6 million in Q2 with an average donation of $30, without a dime from PACs, corporations or federal lobbyists. EL PASO, TEXAS -- Beto O'Rourke raised more than $13 million during the first four months of his presidential campaign from nearly 200,000 donors across the country. His more than $3.6 million in Q2 came from 119,888 contributions with an average donation of $30. Beto has officially met the DNC's 130,000 unique donor requirement for the fall primary debates. Relying on small-dollar donations and with teachers, nurses, and students across the nation as the top contributors by occupation, 98% of the contributions made during Q2 were below $200. A full 99% of the Q2 fundraising came in online. The campaign received donations from every single state and D.C. during the three month FEC reporting period. Signaling growing grassroots support, nearly half -- 48% -- of the contributors who pitched in during Q2 were new donors to Beto's presidential campaign. For a comprehensive post-Q2 campaign update, please see the following memo from campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon. I joined this campaign because I believe in Beto and I know he is the best person to lead our country forward. This country is facing existential challenges like climate change, economic inequality, gun violence and Trump's immigration policies that have caused chaos at the border and rejected our values as a country. Beto believes that we can’t solve these problems with the same old approach. We need to bring about a new kind of politics, where millions of Americans are finally brought into our democracy. | Organizing by the numbers:    Grassroots events held: 3,551    Event attendees: More than 47,486 (31,454 in Q2)    Volunteers: Over 100,000    States we’ve canvassed in: 50 Fundraising: A lot of folks have asked about our fundraising numbers. Overall, here’s where we are:    $13 million total raised, campaign-to-date    $3.6 million Q2 raised    $30 average contribution    193,105 total number of donors

Eric Garner's Death Will Not Lead to Federal Charges for N.Y.P.D. Officer. The Justice Department will not bring federal charges against a New York City police officer in the death of Eric Garner, ending a yearslong inquiry into a case that sharply divided officials and prompted national protests over excessive force by the police. The United States attorney in Brooklyn, Richard P. Donoghue, announced the decision not to bring criminal civil rights charges on Tuesday morning, one day before the fifth anniversary of Mr. Garner’s death. That is the deadline by which they would have to file some of the possible charges against the officer, Daniel Pantaleo. Mr. Donoghue called Mr. Garner’s death a tragedy, but said “the evidence does not support charging Police Officer Pantaleo with a federal civil rights violation.”  He went over the entire arrest step-by-step and said the government could not prove Officer Pantaleo willfully used excessive force to violate Mr. Garner’s rights as required under the law.

YEP: Democrat Sherrod Brown torches Facebook at hearing: 'They broke journalism, helped incite a genocide' | The top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee said Tuesday that it would be “crazy” to allow Facebook to launch a cryptocurrency payment platform, arguing that the “dangerous” social media company cannot be trusted as part of the global financial system. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) argued that “Facebook has demonstrated through scandal after scandal that it doesn't deserve our trust” to operate Project Libra, its proposed payment network based on a proprietary cryptocurrency. “Their motto has been move fast and break things. They certainly have,” Brown said. "They moved fast and broke journalism. They moved fast and helped incite a genocide," referring to the Myanmar military's use of Facebook to incite a genocide against the country's Muslim Rohingya minority group in 2018. “It takes a breathtaking amount of arrogance to look at that track record and think, 'You know, really what we really ought to do next? Let's run our own bank and our own for-profit version of the Federal Reserve. Let’s do it for the whole world.' "

Neolithic settlement — the largest ever discovered in Israel and the Levant, say archaeologists — is currently being excavated ahead of highway construction five kilometers from Jerusalem, it was announced on Tuesday. The 9,000-year-old site, located near the town of Motza, is the “Big Bang” for prehistory settlement research due to its size and the preservation of its material culture, said Jacob Vardi, co-director of the excavations at Motza on behalf of the Antiquities Authority. “It’s a game changer, a site that will drastically shift what we know about the Neolithic era,” said Vardi. Already some international scholars are beginning to realize the existence of the site may necessitate revisions to their work, he said. “So far, it was believed that the Judea area was empty, and that sites of that size existed only on the other bank of the Jordan river, or in the Northern Levant. Instead of an uninhabited area from that period, we have found a complex site, where varied economic means of subsistence existed, and all this only several dozens of centimeters below the surface,” according to Vardi and co-director Dr. Hamoudi Khalaily in an IAA press release. Roughly half a kilometer from point to point, the site would have housed an expected population of some 3,000 residents. In today’s terms, said Vardi, prehistoric Motza would be comparable to the stature of Jerusalem or Tel Aviv — “a real metropolis.”

Epstein’s Abuse Continued While He Was on Work Release From Jail | In a press conference Tuesday, attorney Brad Edwards, who is representing some of Epstein’s accusers, said at least one woman in Florida alleges abuse at the hands of Epstein while he was on work release. Epstein was also visited during this time by others for “sexual contact,” Edwards said, adding that he doesn’t know if any of the visitors were underage. “They believed that they were going there for something other than a sexual purpose,” Edwards said of Epstein’s visitors. “While there, surprisingly to them, the situation turned sexual.” Edwards continued: “He was in his office most of the day, and what I can tell you he had visitors, female visitors. I don’t know if any of them were underage. The female visitors were there not for business and engaged in very similar conduct of that which was described in the Palm Beach police report. It was sexual in nature.” Edwards said he wanted to share the information because Epstein’s lawyers have claimed that he’s been a model citizen since serving his 2008 sentence. But Edwards said that Epstein was still engaging in problematic behavior, even if his alleged victims were not underage.
