The difference between the Maverick's 1st ranked offense and the 2nd best offense is the same as between 2nd and 18th. According to Basketball Reference the Mavericks have the best offense in the league at 117.5 offensive rating (ortg), with number 2 Houston at 113.6 ortg, a difference of 3.9. The Pelicans have the 18th best offense at 109.7, 3.9 worse than the 2nd ranked Rockets. The Mavericks also have the highest ortg of all time and a similar lead in the all-time rankings. Their lead over 2nd ranked '19 GSW is the same as between '19 GSW and 22nd ranked '95 Jazz. When bringing up all time ortg, it is worth noting efficiency has been trending up over time, but the league average ortgs over the last four seasons have been 108.8, 108.6, 110.4, and then 109.5 this season. So this season is very close to the average over the last 4 years (109.3). If we take the Mav's lead over the 2nd best offense ever (1.6 ortg), there have been 13 different NBA seasons with a league average ortg within at least 1.6 of the 2020 season, meaning that even adjusting for era the Mavericks offense has outperformed every other team in at least the 13 best offensive seasons in NBA history. I don't think the Mav's offense has been getting enough credit for how dominant they have been.
