Aww, Nunez wants to stop holding hearings.
If Trump pushed Zelensky to review ALL past corruption cases, then this line of questioning from Republican counsel would make sense. But he didn’t. He just focused on one American, who just happens to be the son of Trumps leading electoral opponent at the time.
Both witnesses said it wasn't their job to make such a determination (attempted quid pro quo impeachable offense)
Are those Republicans lapel pins reminiscent of Nazi symbolism?
"Is attempted murder a crime? Is attempted robbery crime? Is attempted extortion and bribery a crime?"
- Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas)

Mr. Kent over the Republican charade
Kent b!tchslapped Ratcliffe
What does removing an ambassador have to do with the reasons we are impeaching Trump?
DAMN Kent Savage!: "Your constitutional obligation is to consider the evidence before you."
Man it's insane how 2 minutes of smart, prepared questioning is more valuable than 15 minutes of confused stuttering or Republican tamper tantrums. Castro just put the situation of Zelensky very clearly and very concisely. I wish more Democrat Congressmen/women were this way.
ObamaObamaObamaObama!!
Republican Rep Chris Stewart argues that Biden shouldn't be immune from investigation. Dems argue that any investigation of Biden should be by US authorities, not a foreign power under pressure from US president
The White House is telling aides (who are first hand witnesses) not to testify and also attacking Democrats for not having firsthand witnesses. Some of the first hand witnesses will be testifying today.
Kent and Taylor testify that Zelensky could have been hurt back home or may have been concerned aid could be at risk if he raised concerns about Trump’s ask. “That’s a fair assessment,” Kent says. “He cannot afford to be seen to be deferring to any foreign leader,” Taylor says
Rep. Jim Himes: "Faced with very serious allegations of presidential misconduct, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle don't engage or defend that conduct. Rather, they spin theories about black ledgers and Steele dossiers."
https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1194693211459067904
"State Department official George Kent just refuted a key Trump talking point. Kent agreed with Rep. Jim Himes ... who said that Trump’s efforts to secure an investigation into Biden was not a 'thoughtful and well-calibrated anti-corruption program.'"
Jim Jordan gives Bill Taylor a piece of paper with Sondland's clarification. Jordan notes the chain of information Taylor was using involved several other people. But Taylor ends it with this clincher: “The way I read this, [Sondland] understands this the same way I do.”
George Kent: "I do not believe the United States should ask other countries to engage in selective, politically associated investigations or prosecutions against opponents of those in power, because such selective actions undermine the rule of law, regardless of the country."
Kent says he does not think what Biden did in trying to get Ukraine to fire prosecutor Shokin is the same as what Trump did. Kent says Shokin was a "corrupt prosecutor general...who had undermined" a US anti-corruption initiative involving US taxpayer money.
Reminder: Zelensky was being threatened
Ukraine is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world under Russian attacks yet Republicans think that their president would go on record to criticize the Trump admin somehow.
HIMES: "As you look at this whole mess, Rudy Giuliani, President Trump, in your opinion, was this a comprehensive and whole-of-government effort to end corruption in Ukraine?"
KENT: "Referring to the requests in July?"
HIMES: "Exactly."
KENT: "I would not say so, no sir."
I am pretty sure that Jim Jordan is picking up money on the side reading fast-talking disclaimers on those drug ads on TV.

Jim Jordan serves up conspiracy theories with a side of rage
Trump failed to commit the crime fully, so its not a crime!
Kent says he communicated his concern about perception of conflict of interest to the office of the vice president given Hunter Biden service on board. Counsel lays out that VP Biden nonetheless continued to promote U.S. policy interests re: Ukraine
GOP counsel Steve Castor: “This irregular channel of diplomacy, it’s not as outlandish as it could be, is that correct?”
Taylor: “It’s not as outlandish as it could be."
Castor has resting outlandish face
Complete exchange between Ambassador William Taylor and Intelligence Committee Counsel Daniel Goldman
https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4829427/democrats-counsel-daniel-goldman-questions-william-taylor-george-kent
I wouldn't be surprised if counsel for GOP comes out at some point like "Look, these assholes have no case and had me watch 20 hours of Hannity as prep for questioning."
Castor is trying to legitimize investigating Biden through Kent's testimony
"Sure, what Trump did was illegal, but he only did it to get justice that was overdue!"
Taylor: “The Russians are violating all of the rules and treaties they committed to that actually kept the peace. That rule of law and order was violated by the Russians. And if we don’t push back, and if that continues, that affects the kind of world we live in.”
The GOP council doesn't sound confident in his words. Stumbling through them actually.
GOP counsel Castor does not seem to be familiar with basics of how US diplomacy in foreign nations works. He asks if Ukrainian readout of Trump call was 'cryptic' because it was in Ukrainian?
"I want to spend a little time reading the transcript, as we've been encouraged to do..." (Democrat's counsel, indirectly referring to Trump campaign's "read the transcript" shirts)
Fox News has Shitstain Ken Starr on right now and he's criticizing the 'culture of impeachment' that we're living in
Republicans: We can't investigate a crime until we know who called the police!
I was on this call. -Bill Taylor. This is the account of a first hand witness on the call under penalty of perjury. The "transcript" that was never a transcript (notes from memory, not actual transcription of recording) is now irrelevant. The whistleblower has been irrelevant since Donald Trump admitted the accusations.

A theme throughout so much of the last few years has been this feelings that anyone paying attention to Trump's presidency and the insane news cycle already knows the answers to questions like this. I'd even include players like Schiff (and I'd say even a good chunk of Republican lawmakers even if they'd never admit it) and others. We all know these things to be true just from information that has been made publicly available or what's been spewed from Trump's own mouth. I understand the whole "the wheels of justice turn slowly but exceedingly fine" concept but it's surreal living through it. Every single fucking day, so many people, hours of work, articles, video clips, research, etc on things that are already so abundantly clear. I read those questions and just shake my head that so much effort is being put towards screaming "2+2=4" as loud as possible to people who have been force fed 2+2=7 from Fox News for decades. I've never lived through anything like this, and I hope I never do again once it's over. We know, without a shadow of a doubt, that the answer to all these questions is "Yes", because this administration couldn't cover up a spilled glass of grape juice. It's insane to me that so many people aren't on the same page due to brainwashing, idiocy, willful ignorance, and/or malicious intent.
The Republican Party is pounding the table because they have neither the facts nor the law on their side. The impeachment inquiry is for the actions of The President of the United States, not the Bidens, not the Clintons, nor any other private citizen

The grounds for impeachment are straightforward: The POTUS abused the power of his presidency to personally bribe Ukraine by withholding aid they were already entitled to, unless Ukraine agreed to meddle in the 2020 election by opening sham investigations into his political rivals
In fact, the Founders had a broader conception of bribery than what’s in the criminal code. Their understanding was derived from English law, under which bribery was understood as an officeholder’s abuse of the power of an office to obtain a private benefit rather than for the public interest. This staffer will be testifying in the hearing: Bill Taylor dropped a bombshell in his impeachment hearing opening statement. He said a member of his staff gave an account of a previously unknown Trump phone call. | This call took place on July 26, the day after Trump’s now-infamous phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Taylor’s staff member told him that Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland had called Trump on the phone from a restaurant; the staffer was present for that call. During the call, the staffer heard Trump ask Sondland about “the investigations,” and Sondland replied that the Ukrainians were ready to move forward. “Following the call with President Trump, the member of my staff asked Ambassador Sondland what Trump thought about Ukraine,” Taylor said. “Ambassador Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which Giuliani was pressing for.”

I am extremely pleased that the two counts alleging I engaged in a conspiracy against Nike have just been dismissed by Trump’s DOJ. I will be fully exonerated when it is all said and done. This case should have never let been filed.

One reason this report matters now is that so much of the impeachment drama is linked to how Trump and his aides sidelined career State Department staffers. | In a report to be released publicly later this week, State Department Inspector General Steve Linick recommends that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo consider disciplining officials found to have violated policies that require they use merit-based factors in determining where to place career staffers. The report has been in the works for more than a year. It covers five cases, and overall its findings are mixed, in part because the inspector general says he was "unable to obtain essential information from key decision-makers." | The findings are sure to disappoint some folks because they are mixed. But note that the IG couldn’t get the cooperation he needed in every case.

I feel like Deval Patrick could’ve been a contender if he’d spent his post-gubernatorial years actually laying the groundwork for a presidential run rather than cashing-in at Bain.

"Mr. Taylor, I want to draw on your experience finally as a West Point cadet and as an infantry commander in Vietnam. In a battlefield situation, is a commanding officer allowed to hold up action, placing his troops at risk until someone provides him a personal benefit?"

—"No, sir."
"Is that because if commanding officers did that, they would be betraying their responsibility to the nation and the men and women under their command?"
—"Yes, sir."
"And if that happened and were found out, would that person be subject to discipline?"
—"Yes, sir."
"Could that type of conduct trigger a court-martial?"
—"Yes, sir."
"Thank you."

YEP: "We’re not sitting here talking about the 2019 World Series champion Houston Astros potentially cheating, because the Nationals met them in that series, and were prepared — regardless of the Astros’ talent, and regardless of their methods."

MLB should investigate but people need to give credit where credit is due: the Nationals crushed everybody except Greinke in the playoffs. And all teams do everything they can to steal signs, they do the same in the NFL.
