The article did what it was intended to do, then. I read it as the article showing how and what these people think, who they think they are, then having Rabbi Telve’s interview show that they’re nothing but racist hypocrites. Middle America reads this and thinks “are they going to say X needs to be about them too?”, the activists look as stupid and uninformed as they are.

I think the intent is to show off exactly how racist and undeveloped Borgwardt and Carty’s thinking is. I think part of this is also getting those people who agree with them to read this, think they’re being agreed with, then force them to grapple with Telve as such a reasonable person that they've demonized. I believe the juxtaposition of their quotes with Telve's interview is intended to display how uninformed and hypocritical they are. We're supposed to walk away shaking our heads No at Borgwardt and Carty.

This article definitely reinforced the impression I've been getting that the pro-Hamas coalition is authoritarian white leftists with paternalistic "noble savage" ideas + pan-Arab nationalists cosplaying as anti-colonialist racial justice warriours and tokenizing a handful of black people. Ironic.

Daniel Bergner did a magnificent job putting together the article.
