A newly filed lawsuit, based in part on reporting by @CBS_42 , claims that an Alabama man froze to death in police custody and was "likely" placed in a jail freezer during his detention. [cbs42]

The abuse is inexcusable in every respect and even more tragic because it appears police were initially called by his family because he was having a mental health crisis. We need to reimagine public safety and get the police out of the mental health business. Screenshots from additional surveillance video included in the lawsuit show that Mitchell was naked during his detention. He was placed, the suit said, in a concrete isolation cell for the duration of his two-week stint in the jail. Instead of a mental health facility for stabilization evaluation. This is not something you can train out of someone. This is intentional depravity and inhumanity that you cannot really fix. Someone who's reached this point is broken. It's not individual. It's cultural. Every officer in that facility should be fired. They should each be reviewed by the DOJ for possible civil rights violations. The guy who was fired should he put in charge of the new team. You cannot fix this level of depravity. Law enforcement in the US is out of control.
