This, by Ukrainian artist Andrey Goopsa, is worth a moment of your time. I can’t embed it here, so you’ll have to follow the Instagram link.
Goopsa is a Kharkiv-based digital artist who makes incredible images by dividing photographs of Ukrainian buildings in a fashion that depicts them both before and after their destruction by invading forces. The images are remarkable.
Here, however, he is doing almost the opposite: imagining improvements to Russian cities that could be accomplished with the money Russia is spending on destroying Ukrainian cities. He writes on the Instagram post (or so Google Translate tells me):
One Kalibr missile costs $6.5 million, an X-101 missile costs $13 million, and an X-555 missile costs $7.5 million.
For example, on December 5, 2022, Russia launched 400-500 million dollars in missiles over Ukraine. Imagine how much improvement could be done in the cities of Russia with the money spent on the entire "special operation." No, it would not be just several districts. This would significantly change cities and the comfort of citizens.
I called this mini-project "Russian logic."
While I can’t embed the short video here, I can embed this much longer video of a #SpecialMilitaryOperation I did a few months ago with Avery Schmitz projecting Goopsa’s other work on the wall of the russian embassy’s cultural center in Washington. And I can share well the slideshow we projected so you can get a closer look at the work.
