The bully pulpit used to mean that the president (Theodore Roosevelt in particular) would literally travel somewhere and set up an actual speech pulpit on the main square and shame reticent legislator BY NAME in front of their constituents. If Biden were using it, he would call out DeSantis from a stage set up outside the executive mansion in Tallahassee in his speech yesterday, or do similar in AZ and WV for the holdout senators. Politics has always been about applying pressure via constituents. Here's Teddy doing it in Asheville, NC a hundred years ago. It's definitely a real thing. Just not used effectively anymore.
The Senate was designed to be more powerful then the Presidency and holds a much greater range of powers. The expansion of the Presidential power has mostly come from the Congress delegating their own powers, and the Congress can pretty much take them back when they want to. Biden has nothing to work with, doubly so since Manchin's state hates him, and Sinema is a plant.
Texas begins the end of abortion as we know it . 1400 Texans died last week from Covid-19. You can’t force a 15 yr old girl to wear a mask at school but you can force her to become a mother.
Fundamental Attribution Error: the idea being that when someone else does something "wrong" it's because he/she is a bad person, but when I do something "wrong" I am a victim of my environment around me. Makes it very easy for Republicans to be hypocrites. The "true" Americans can do whatever they want because whatever they want is moral and righteous by definition.
Can we teach sex ed, and provide contraceptives to people?
Republicans: No.
Ok, well then we need strong social safety nets for women that need help raising unplanned children.
Republicans: No.
Ok, well then we have allow women to make the incredibly personal decision to abort the unplanned pregnancy they have no means of supporting.
Republicans: No.
So basically, you just want to bring children into the world knowing they will struggle from the day that they're born.
Republicans: You got it!

It takes over 4 hours to read the names of all the victims killed on 9/11. It would take 37 days to read all the names of the people we’ve lost to Covid-19.
